er-gray2Edwin Rivera Edwin Rivera was born and raised in Puerto Rico where he completed his education at the University of Puerto Rico in San Juan. He relocated to California where he continued studies in Management and Organizational Development and completed his Master’s degree in Business Management. During his career, Edwin has been involved in government, not-for-profit and the corporate world. He has extensive experience in the Latino market, as well as in cultural and linguistic standards and requirements. As a Director of Policy for the Latino Coalition for a healthy California, he was an instrumental participant in the development of CLAS early in this decade. He also was instrumental in the research and development of culturally sensitive and cross-border health care programs.

He has over ten years of management experience in State Health programs from working in County Government, and has been responsible for implementing language “transcreation” programs during his career. His education and experience in the Latino market gives him a unique perspective on the importance of translation and “transcreation” of communications for consumers that are not proficient in the English language.

 

Luis MiguelLuis Miguel, CEO, Avantpage: Born and raised in Mexico, Luis immigrated to the United States in 1979, a citizen of the world - the son of Mexican parents and grandson to Lebanese grandparents. With a PhD in computer science and as an industry expert, Luis has a deep understanding of language technologies, translation, and cross-cultural issues. He has written articles for the American Translators Association (ATA) Journal, presented talks at ATA conferences, and chaired panels for the Translation Company Division of the ATA.
